The person most responsible for disseminating the work of Tomkins is Donald L. Nathanson, M.D. It is through him that I came to know of Tomkins and then through reading his seminal book SHAME AND PRIDE: AFFECT, SEX AND THE BIRTH OF SELF and KNOWING FEELING which he edited that I began to change many things in my practice and relationships. Links to The Silvan S. Tomkins Institute are found at the left along with other associated organizations that have been influenced by the work of Tomkins - Nathanson.
Over the years I have tried my hand at making the ideas as accessible as I can. My summaries and ideas can be found at here brianlynchmd.com and in my books, KNOWING YOUR EMOTIONS, and Thinking, Feeling Doing.
